"Thurston, The Famous Magician, Beauty The Arabian Steed"

Otis Lithograph Window Card

Most magic historians and magic collectors know of Howard Thurston's 1925 "Beauty, Thurston's Arabian Steed - Vanishing In Mid Air- A $50,000 Illusion" Otis Lithograph.

It was made in a 1/2 sheet (20" x 30"), a panel, a 1 sheet (30" x 40"), a 3 sheet and an 8 sheet (8, 1 sheet sized posters). (The image of the poster is shown here to the left).

This poster can be located in the Thurston Poster Section.

A picture of the 8 sheet version of this poster can be seen in a photo in the "When Thurston Came To Town" Lecture.

In 1925 there was a Dante 3 Sheet (3, 1 sheet sized posters) that was used for Dante's magic show.  The poster says "Dante, The Famous Magician - Beauty The Arabian Steed, Vanishes In Mid Air - $50,000 Illusion". (Image shown to the right).

You will notice that on the bottom of the poster is says "The Wonder Show Of The Universe".

That is the same slogan that Howard Thurston used.

Howard Thurston originally had these posters made for himself, but then had Dante use them, since Dante was under Thurston's management.

All they did was print a new top piece to the poster that said "Dante".

Howard Thurston then had the poster shown above produced for the same illusion.

And now for the "Item Of The Month"...

As you can see it is a Thurston poster and says "Thurston, The Famous Magician - Beauty The Arabian Steed, Vanishes In Mid Air - $50,000 Illusion".

It is a window card size Otis Lithograph and measures approximately 14" x 22". (Image shown to the left).

This is an extremely rare piece due to the fact that it is a window card, it is still all intact, and the fact that it is an image that has in some sense never been seen as a Thurston poster.

Most magic collectors and magic historians know the image as a Dante 3 Sheet poster.

So here for the first time is the same image that was used in the Dante 3 sheet poster, but what it really looked like when Thurston first used it...
